Catching up

Why is it that every year is more crazy than the year before? I think, wow, I've made it through this year, next year I will be able to relax a little, I'll have more time to do what I want, etc. It never happens that way. I haven't even read my blog or anyone elses in at least a month.

I apologize for my inattentiveness. I have been super busy, but I just wanted you who read this to know that I love you. Thank you for spending time with our family and I hope everything is well with you, I certainly pray that it is.

I recently read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. This book series is huge right now. So I thought I'd give it a read. Let me just say, the first one is interesting, but it's very poorly paced. The story is alright, a bit weak, but intriguing but it's biggest draw back is that its just incredibly slow and boring. I hear the next books pick up, and I can believe it, the author, Steig Larson (sp?), has ability but needed to get a bit more practice at pacing a novel. Of course, he died after writing these three books which is the true reason they are insanely popular, kinda like Kurt Cobain. A talent mixed with an untimely death can combine into a sensation.

I also picked up Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins because the the third book in the trilogy, Mocking Jay, recently came out which I had been waiting for to finish reading the series. Catching Fire was really great, the pacing was so far superior to Girl with Dragon Tattoo. I know there will be a lot of elitists out there who will turn their noses up at a young adult fantasy novel, but in terms of story telling and the elements that make for a great read, you'll find them more in Catching Fire.

I'm now reading Mocking Jay. It's interesting, and I really like what they are doing so far (100 pages into it). I'll let you more know about how I felt about it after I've finished.

On a side note, I also recently bought Brandon Sanderson's Way of Kings, this is a massive book, over 1000 pages of fantasy-nerd-goodness.
